TJS - THE EDUCATIONAL AND CULTURAL CENTRE FOR PROFESSIONAL EMPLOYEES

The Educational Federation for Unions for Professional Employees in Finland (TJS) is an educational and cultural organisation of two trade unions, the Confederation of Unions for Academic Professionals in Finland (AKAVA) and the Finnish Confederation of Salaried Employees STTK. TJS maintains the TJS Study Centre, which is an adult education centre. TJS was founded in 1978.

  • plans and carries out commissioned courses

EDUCATION

TJS offers advisory services and consulting on education according to the client's needs. With its member organisations TJS is involved in organising 1,800 courses annually. The education arranged by the TJS Study Centre itself comprises nearly 150 courses throughout Finland on a variety of themes, including organisational activities, working life, learning, culture, interactional skills, EU, communications, and IT.

GOVERNMENT GRANTS FOR EDUCATION

TJS promotes the training provided by its member organisations through distributing government grants for non-formal adult education.

CULTURE

TJS carries out a variety of art and culture projects as well as organises events and competitions. The aim is to stimulate professional employees' own initiative and activity, and thus provide better resources for employees to meet the demands of working life.

PUBLICATIONS

TJS publishes and produces educational material and other publications relating to professional employee culture. These publications are available on a number of subjects:

  • employment and unemployment
  • every-day life, values
  • organisational life
  • women
  • communications
  • the EU

STUDY CIRCLES

TJS allocates government grants for study circles. A study circle consists of a minimum of five adult members who regularly gather to study, for discussion or to pursue a hobby.
