The Swedish Study Centre (SSC) is a service organization for 43 NGO:s in the Swedish-speaking parts of Finland. SSC works to support the different organizations in their effort to regionally and locally maintain a variety of activities within different sectors, such as culture, education and the development of rural areas. The active NGO:s in the Swedish-speaking parts of Finland reflect the importance for a minority of a strong cultural identity.

SSC works under the slogan resources for development in all training and educational activities :

  • personal development according to the principles of lifelong learning
  • organizational development that will build learning organizations with focus on among others leadership, quality management, teamwork and future planning
  • local development built upon a local competence and creativity as well as the
  • guidelines of sustainable development formulated in the Local Agenda 21 action plan
  • developing networks in the field of IT and computer technology, building inter-national networks in Europe

SSC has a lot of experience of European cooperation, for instance in the field of local development projects in rural regions (LEADER, Interreg, ESF) in Finland. However, our main competence is to offer innovative methods of adult education into the projects, giving shape to partnership synergies between individuals, NGO:s and authorities.

The SSC has three permanent offices in Helsingfors, Åbo and Vasa, and is a host organization for Carrefour Ostrobothnia in Oravais on EU-information for rural areas.
