Since 1991 have audiences across the world seen the musical Fame, based
on the tv-series of the 1980's. The events of the musical are located
in the New York School of Performing Arts. To get in there is almost as
winning in the lottery. The musical describes the lives of talented young
people studying dance, music and acting. The students represent different
races and different cultures, they speak different languages and come
from different social classes. Their teachers are ambitious and demanding.
The most talented student is not always the winner; instead, persistence
will be rewarded.
The musical, produced in Kokkola, Finland, is performed in four languages:
Finnish, Swedish, English and Spanish. There are scenes with some 30 to
60 performers on stage. Fame - the musical is realised as a cooperation
between various parties involved in youth work.
